What does an adventurer eat?

We’re back for a second edition of recipe ideas to make on road trip! After the ideas of meals in case of high heat, we propose to travel tastefully with recipes typical of the four corners of the world.

Simple, easily achievable and more or less “healthy”, these dishes will give you all the energy you need for your adventures in a converted van.

Of course, you can adapt the recipes with what you like (the recipes have been tested and approved by the Blacksheep team).

We start our World Tour in Asia with a recipe for fried chicken/beef/shrimp/tofu noodles (you can choose according to your tastes), for 2 people you will need to:

  • 150g Asian noodles
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 zucchini
  • some broccoli flowers
  • 1/4 peppers
  • 1 chicken breast / 6 shrimp / 100 g beef (tender) / 150 g tofu
  • soy sauce
  • olive oil
  • 1/2 onion
  • salt/pepper

This recipe is made in two stages: cooking the noodles on the one hand and cooking the vegetables / accompaniments on the other.

Cook the noodles as indicated by the bag and leave them out.

Wash the vegetables, peel them and slice them into julienne strips. Fry them in the pan with a little oil, then salt, pepper and add a little soy sauce.

Depending on the size of the pan, add the noodles and mix or place the noodles on a plate before adding the vegetables on top. You can add a few coriander leaves if you have any!

We continue in Asia with a curry rice recipe that will take you to India. To do this, you need:

  • 120g rice
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 jar of crème fraîche
  • 2 to 3 tbsp curry (depending on the desired taste)
  • Salt pepper
  • 10 cL coconut milk (optional)

Cook the rice traditionally and set aside.

Then cut the chicken breasts into pieces. Slice the onions, fry them in the pan with a little oil, then add the chicken, crème fraîche, coconut milk, salt, pepper and curry. Cook over low heat.

For a “classy” dressing, which could (almost) make it look like you’re in a restaurant, make a dome with the rice, make a small hole at the top and pour your chicken into it, or arrange it all around the dome.

We then go to the American side with the dish to share par excellence during a nice evening in a festive atmosphere: fajitas.

  • 4 tortillas
  • 2 chicken breasts or 200g minced meats
  • spices for fajitas (already there are bags already commercially ready) or chili, cumin, oregano, paprika
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1 onion
  • salt, pepper
  • a little crème fraîche
  • olive oil
  • salad (optional)

Very simple recipe yet so tasty … Wash and slice the vegetables and cut the chicken/meat into small pieces. Sauté the sliced onion in a little olive oil. Then add the vegetables, crème fraîche and then the chicken. Add spices, salt and pepper to taste and marinate. Once this mixture is cooked, heat your tortillas for a few minutes on the pan and let’s go for the fajitas party!

Tip: You can put a salad leaf at the base of your tortilla to bring a little freshness.

Head to the USA for a good homemade burger! Much better than in fast food, we guarantee it!

  • 2 burger buns
  • 2 minced beef or tofu steaks, potato patty
  • a few salads / spinach sprouts
  • mayonnaise/ketchup
  • 4 slices cheese (cheddar)
  • 1/2 onion and honey/sugar
  • Bacon
  • 1 Tomato

Start by preparing your onion, chop it and fry it with a little oil, then caramelize it with a tablespoon of honey or sugar. Then cook your steaks (and bacon) according to your preferences. Warm up your burger buns, arrange the cheddar on it so it can melt. Slice the tomato and arrange on the buns, add sauce and spinach salad/shoots, caramelized onions and steak. It’s ready to taste!

Finally last recipe, typically Spanish: the tortilla (potato!)

  • 4 eggs
  • 500g potatoes (about 3-4)
  • 1/2 onion
  • Oil
  • Salt, pepper

A must-have dish in Spain, to eat alone, as an aperitif or with a small salad, the tortilla will delight your taste buds!

Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into cubes/ strips to your liking (and your know-how?!). Then chop the onion, fry it with oil in a frying pan, add the potatoes and brown them. Once cooked, mix the beaten eggs, salt and pepper with the potatoes. Cook your omelette on both sides and enjoy!

It is hoped that these recipe ideas will make your road trip more enjoyable, because yes the pasta salad is good but after a few days it’s enough … Through this article, we wanted to show you that cooking in a Blacksheep van is not that complicated and you can make good dishes!

So, ready to go on an adventure in a converted van?
